Trend 3 – NO RULES

Open any design site (ours included) and there’s a list a mile long of colour rules. And none of these, might I add, all agree. Which is probably for the best, because if the world was painted the same colour of greige, it would be pretty boring. This departure from colour rules has been a long time in the making. “You can’t paint a small room a dark colour” fights with others conviction that “dark powder rooms are the best!”. So, where does that leave us?

Introducing: the no rules trend!

Pink, red, AND bright blue? You don’t say…

Due in part to our craving to break the rules, the colour clash trend is one that will likely be here to stay, just in varying degrees. It can be tedious to try to stick perfectly to one color palette, and as you collect items for your home over time, inevitably, something “doesn’t go”. Instead of relegating it to a back shelf, let’s celebrate the diversity of our spaces and our favourite items! Here’s a BIG huge set of inspiration shots, because folks- there are no rules to this trend. If it feels right, do it!

Pink fridge? Why not.
Small room, dark walls? 100% yes.
Red and green normally conjure up a festive vibe, but this cool tropical interpretation is on point.
While coral pink and grassy green sounds like a watermelon disaster, it’s actually makes for a really vibrant little crafting nook.
Some designers might say it’s a faux pas to layer the same colour over and over, but the blue walls and chairs create real drama!
