Exploring Trends: Ombre

Ombre has exploded into fashion and even hair trends this last year, and is making its way into interiors! A fun and youthful look, ombre can be used to add a punch of colour and vibrancy to a space. It is a trend that will be around for a while longer, but expect to see it wane in the next two years. This is a great trend to tackle with some DIY projects- don’t commit to a big purchase, like flooring or appliances. The easiest way to ensure a great ombre look, is with a paint swatch! Typically grouped in varying shades of a colour, it can be an easy way to decide just how to tackle the colour progression.

This dresser was revived by painting the entire unit white, and each drawer in a cascading shades of pink. To tie it together with the chair, the legs were painted with the deepest shade of pink as well as the very top. This an easy, at home project- take a look around to see what you could update with an eye catching ombre finish!

A great project to involve kids- even teens- for their rooms… cut out shapes with a punch- available at Staples or Michaels- and arrange in order of lightest to darkest to make a fun ombre art piece.

Here is a blend of ombre, working from both ends and meeting to the lightest colour in the middle. A fun piece of art, and easily made at home! This would be great to tie in colours, if you have a colour you want to pop start with it as the deepest shade and work your way into the lightest shade in the middle. Don’t worry about the lines being straight and uniform, this look is really about the whimsy and not look crisp.
